ÀWÒKO (For king Saheed Osupa) by Ogunyomi Israel Abidemi

We hail the songbird, Awoko,
Weaver of musical nests into a paradise
Of calico with a vivacious loom of wit;

Cacophonous cadence that cages
Cascades of cadenza in a cave of caeca
And carves choral chromium like
An ancient sculptor in the city of Priam into
Castles of cassette before the castration
Of callow in a castellated chaos
On a catalogue of catastrophic catalepsy!

What does a cat’s meow measure in a jungle
Enveloped by the petrification of a lion’s roar?
Which of the deities dares outshine Lakaaye

In the competition of smithery in the smithy?
